Fiber Optic Cable Management

Fiber optic cable is a utility resource for University communication applications. Responsibility for managing the fiber resources of the campus as they relate to data, video, or voice transmission has been assigned to IT Services. When allocations of existing resources or installation of new resources are required for intra-building and premise connections, IT Services will approve plans, coordinate installations and allocate costs.

The fiber system will be managed with policies and procedures similar to the campus' electrical utilities. Facilities Management will install fiber optic cable in response to service requests approved by IT Services. IT Services will work with clients of the University's fiber optic resources to ensure reliable service on the utility.
