Tuition
Educational expenses at the University of Arkansas will vary according to a student’s course of study, personal needs and place of residence. Tuition rates are approved by the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees (Board of Trustees), per Board Policy 520.4. Tuition is reviewed by the Board of Trustees annually at a minimum. Student residence status for tuition and fee purposes is addressed in Board Policy 520.8.
Student progress or general course of action in pursuit of higher education at the University of Arkansas is determined during the application and acceptance process. At the conclusion of the application and acceptance process, the progress or general course of action for each student is assigned a category, called a career. Progress or general course of action for credit bearing degree programs at the university in descending order of magnitude by the cost of tuition per credit hour are identified under the career categories of Agricultural & Food Law, Law, Graduate, and Undergraduate. Progress or general course of action for non-credit bearing, nondegree programs for students with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) made possible through the Higher Education Act of 2008 (HEOA) are identified under the career category of Non-credit Studies.
It is possible for a student to be assigned multiple careers simultaneously. The simultaneous career assignment is a result of pursuit of multiple degrees in different careers. However, the Student Information System is programmed to automatically assign one primary career to each student for all tuition billing purposes, called a billing career. This single billing career is automatically assigned for each student in the descending order of magnitude by the cost of tuition per credit hour listed above. The tuition rate charged to each student is based on that single billing career and can be further affected by the enrolled program as detailed in the chart below. However, a career can also be added to permit enrollment in out-of-career registration. A career added for a non-degree seeking out-of-career registration does not affect the billing career. The student is billed tuition according to the assigned primary billing career.
To accommodate programs crossing specific careers, students assigned a billing career of Agricultural & Food Law or a billing career of Law will be charged the graduate tuition rate per credit hour for courses in the Graduate career category.
Students pursing a Graduate career will also be classified by graduate program. For rates related to specific graduate programs, see the tuition rates approved by the Board of Trustees for the academic period in the chart below. Although a student may be concurrently enrolled in multiple graduate programs, the Student Information System is programmed to assign each student only one primary graduate program for tuition billing purposes based on the highest applicable order of magnitude by the cost of tuition per credit hour.
Students pursing an Undergraduate career will also be classified by undergraduate program. For rates related to specific undergraduate programs, see the tuition rates approved by the Board of Trustees for the academic period in the chart below. Although a student may be concurrently enrolled in multiple undergraduate programs, the Student Information System is programmed to automatically assign each student only one primary undergraduate program for tuition billing purposes based on the highest applicable order of magnitude by the cost of tuition per credit hour.
Base tuition is assessed per credit hour of enrollment unless otherwise specified. Students enrolled in Fayetteville campus courses, off-campus courses offered at the Rogers location, or any combination of these concurrently with online classes are charged base tuition per billing career and program plus non-resident tuition as determined by the student’s residency status for tuition billing purposes. A survey tool for tuition and fee estimation is available at the Treasurer's Office website. Students studying exclusively online are charged the base tuition rate per billing career and program. Differential tuition is additional tuition assessed per credit hour that is added to base tuition and non-resident tuition. Some colleges assess a differential tuition rate for all courses offered by that particular college.
